Welcome to KhaoLak - Khao Lak Thailand hotel and travel information guide - KhaoLak.net. We're so glad that you found our Khaolak site and we naturally hope we can provide you with the information that you require on Khao Lak Phang Nga province Thailand.

Khaolak has made an amazing recovery from the 2004 tsunami and the endless beaches are as lovely and as beautiful as ever.

The jungle has reclaimed the Khaolak coastline. There are no high-rise buildings. Khao Lak's greatest asset now is its pristine, raw jungle, and its clear waters. It's really beautiful - it's Thailand untouched by mass tourism - it's Khaolak.

The newly refurbished and rebranded hotels in Khao Lak are subtle and yet provide even better accomodation.

This is a brief sampling of Khao Lak hotels :

* Le Meridian Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort ( Pakwib Beach Khaolak ) *
* The Sarojin boutique hotel ( Pakwib Beach Khaolak ) *
* Andaman Princess Resort hotel ( Kho Khao island Khaolak ) *
* Khaolak Merlin Resort ( Khaolak south ) *
* La Flora Resort & Spa ( Bang Niang Beach Khaolak ) *
* Mukdara Beach Resort ( Bang Niang Beach Khaolak ) *
* Royal Bangsak Beach Resort ( Bangsak Beach Khaolak ) *

Clear seas with spectacular dive sanctuaries, deserted white sandy beaches, exotic national park
- these are just some of the features of KhaoLak

Many kilometers of the Andaman coastline are casually referred to, and have become known as, KhaoLak. The central hub is however at the village of Ban Bang La On (close to Nang Thong Beach). The "original" KhaoLak beach is actually some five kilometers further south, after the headland where the Khao Lak National Park HQ offices are situated.

In addition to the central hub at Ban La On, there is the less commercial area of Bang Niang village, a couple of kilometers north.

Today, KhaoLak is characterised by kilometers of lovely unspoilt beach coastline, (running north, past the headland, from the original KhaoLak beach), against a lush jungle backdrop, with highway route 4 threading its way effectively in parallel to the coast.

The name Khao Lak literally means a major, primary or prinicipal mountain   in the hilly small mountainous region (maximum height 1,050 meters) within the Khao Lak Lam Ru national park. It has now simply come to be known as 'the mountain beside the sea'. There is a shrine of Chao Pho Khao Lak dedicated to the wizard of the mountain. And for Lam Ru, the Lam translates to trunk or stalk and the rarely used Ru means rub or scratch.

Hat Khao Lak ( KhaoLak beach ) is an exceptionally pretty and long (several kilometers) stretch of pristine sand picturesquely studded with granite boulders. It actually comprises of three individual beaches, and at the far northern end there is a network of sandy beach trails, some of which lead to completely deserted stretches.

The Khaolak coast is set against a background of casuarina pines, which in turn give way to lush green palm groves, interspersed with lakes, and rubber & coco plantations.

Partly encompassing Hat Khao Lak, the forested hills of Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park tower over the natural coastal beauty. This 125 sq km National Park is a lovely collection of sea cliffs, hills, beaches, and evergreen forest. Several other land based National Parks (and also two Marine Parks) can be reached from Khao Lak.
The Khao Lak environs also offers some splendid offshore diving and snorkeling experiences. Live coral formations can be found just off the coast. There is also a nearby wreck dive.

The Similian Islands National Marine Park can be easily reached and lies 55 km due west of Khao Lak. These islands are world renowned among diving enthusiasts for amazing underwater siteseeing at depths down to 30m.

Also within reach, to the north west, is the Surin Islands National Marine Park; these islands are also suited to exploring and hiking, in addition to snorkeling and diving; some of the best reefs at Surin do not require scuba gear.

The accomodation at Khao Lak ranges from some nicely designed Thai-style cottages and bungalows through to a few extremely tasteful and discrete upmarket hotel resorts (again often based on a single story cottage/bungalow theme) offering every luxury with views to the sea and surrounding forest.

We are pleased to offer direct Khao Lak Hotel information, via the hotels themselves as opposed to a third party.

In essence, Khao Lak offers relaxation, tranquility and charm in a splendid unspoilt environment on the beautiful Andaman coastline surrounded by National Park forest. Khaolak is also ideally situated to provide visits to numerous points of interest and natural attractions, including several Marine and Land based National Parks, not only in Phang-Nga province but also in neighbouring Surat Thani and Ranong Provinces.
